Welcome to this simple World of Warcraft Warlock guide. First of all, I just want to say that this is a very basic and general guide for new Warlock players in WoW. I'm not an expert when it comes to Warlock in World of Warcraft, since I only have a level 34 Warlock twink myself. Everything you will find here about Warlocks are based on my own personal experiences as well as inputs from my high level Warlock friends. So, I hope you'll be able to get something useful out of this WoW guide. Warlock Role Warlocks are dark mages that uses dark magic and spells. Personally I'm not a big fan of caster classes in World of Warcraft, and that's why I don't have a high level Warlock. But I have to admit that out of all the caster classes Warlock is definitely one of my favorite due to their ability to summon minions. Other than Warlock's ability to summon demons, they are also experts when it comes to curses, life drain, life to mana conversion, and of course very powerful DoTs (damage over time) spells. So, as you can see that pretty much all their skills are gear towards dealing damages which makes them a great DPS class. However, there are times where Warlocks are used for their crowd control abilities in certain raids or dungeons. Warlock Race Selection As a Warlock you're able to play 9 different races, and they are Orc, Blood Elf, Undead, Goblin, Trolls, Human, Gnome, Worgen, and Dwarf. Every playable race is good in some way as a Warlock, but of course some race will be better than other as a Warlock. What I mean is that out of the 9 playable races Trolls, Orc, and Gnome are going to be better than the other races in my opinion of course. Anyway, when it comes to choosing a good race/combo there are 2 factors I look for. The first and probably an obvious factor to look at is faction. Ideally, you'll want to choose a race that is on the same faction as your friends that you want to play along with, because if you end up on the opposite faction you'll have little to no ability to play with your friends. The next factor that I look at are the racial abilities. I would look at each race and their special abilities and figure out which race will give me the most benefits from the racial abilities. Let's use Gnome and Dwarf as example since they both are able to play as Warlock. Gnome has a skill called Expansive Mind which increases their mana pool by 5%, while Dwarf on the other hand has an ability called Stoneform which reduces incoming damages as well as remove diseases and stuff. At first look both traits are great and useful, but as a Warlock I rather have the mana increase. (I know some would argue with me on this but StoneForm as Warlock is really only good for PvP and maybe some occasion). Anyway, look at the different racial abilities of each race, and go from there. Warlock Talent Trees What I really like about Warlock is the diversity of their talent trees. Each and every one of their talent tree are unique from another, and just by changing your spec from one talent tree to another will change the way you experience the game drastically. Note: You cannot access your talent tree until you’re at least level 10. Affliction -' On the Affliction tree you'll find all skills that improve Warlock's DoT (damage over time), curses, life drain, and life tap spells. Generally speaking this is probably the most popular route for most Warlocks, as it is the best route to use for leveling your Warlock fast. ''Demonology -'' Demonology on the other hand is my personal favorite Warlock talent tree as it improves all Warlock's minion or pet abilities. This talent route is great if you like to use pets a lot, and if you like to play things on the safe side and don't want to die a lot. ''Destruction -'' If you like to destroy things then the Destruction talent tree is what you want. This tree will increase damages of all your fire base burst spells as well as give you powerful spells like Shadow Fury and Shadowburn.
That’s all with this fast and short summary of Warlocks in World of Warcraft. If you would like find out more about Warlock, and how to level them from 1 - 85, then I suggest you read this Great WoW Warlock Guide.
